Senate Confirms Bernard Doro As Minister

The Senate, on Thursday, confirmed the nomination of Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu, a fortnight ago, wrote the Senate, requesting the apex legislative Assembly to confirm the nomination of Dr. Bernard Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Tinubu in the letter, hinged the request on Section 147 sub-section 2 of the 1999 constitution as amended, and therefore, sought its expeditious consideration by the Red Chamber.

After reading the letter, the President of the Senate referred it to the Committee of the Whole for the required consideration and possible confirmation as soon as practicable.

While announcing the nomination of Doro, President Tinubu pointed out that he would be a replacement for Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who earlier represented Plateau State at the federal cabinet as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, but now the national Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

During his screening at Thursday’s plenary, Doro pledged to prioritise transparency and efficiency in humanitarian service delivery, saying “I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is efficient, transparent, and centred on the people being cared for”.

He also promised the lawmakers of his commitment to fostering collaboration among government agencies to avoid duplication of responsibility and also to enhance results.

“I will build synergy among various government agencies to minimise overlap and ensure effective outcomes. Technology will play a key role in achieving these goals.”

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, subsequently put the nomination to a voice vote, and it received unanimous approval from the lawmakers.

Immediately after the confirmation, Akpabio congratulated Doro for his commendable performance during the screening session.
