Super Eagles Land Safely in Uyo After Windscreen Scare

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have finally arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after a delayed flight from South Africa caused by a technical fault. The team, preparing for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic, touched down at the Victor Attah International Airport at 8:05 am on Sunday.
According to team media officer Promise Efoghe, the flight was originally scheduled to depart Polokwane, South Africa, but was delayed due to a technical issue with the ValueJet aircraft. The plane had stopped in Luanda, Angola, for refuelling before developing a fault mid-air, forcing the pilot to make an emergency U-turn back to Luanda.
The incident caused anxiety among players and officials, but everyone on board was safe and unharmed. The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the cracked windscreen was the cause of the fault and praised the pilot for safely guiding the plane back to Luanda.
The NFF worked with Nigerian government authorities to secure a replacement aircraft, and the team is now preparing for their crucial match against Benin Republic on Tuesday. The Super Eagles are focused on securing a win and moving closer to their World Cup qualification goals.
The team’s arrival in Uyo marks the end of a tense and delayed journey, but they are now ready to focus on the task at hand. With their sights set on qualification, the Super Eagles will be looking to secure a vital win against Benin Republic.
