Wike Urges FCT Residents to Pay Taxes
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has emphasized the importance of residents paying their taxes to support the government’s infrastructure drive.

While flagging off the Mohammed Isa Road extension project in Asokoro District, Wike commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for creating jobs through road construction projects in Abuja. He noted that the FCT Administration’s ambitious infrastructure projects are heavily dependent on the availability of resources, which can only be generated through tax payments.
The minister likened the provision of good infrastructure to making a delicious soup, saying, “If soup sweet, na money kill am.” He explained that just as a good soup requires various ingredients, good infrastructure requires funding, which can only be achieved through tax payments. Wike urged residents to pay their taxes promptly, stressing that the funds would be used to provide modern roads and social amenities.
According to Wike, the road construction project is part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in the nation’s capital. The Mohammed Isa Road extension project will significantly enhance connectivity, improve the city’s landscape, and create employment opportunities for residents. The minister noted that prominent critics of President Tinubu’s administration have begun to acknowledge the administration’s successful performance, particularly in infrastructure development.
The project was initiated following a direct appeal from a major critic of the present administration, who called for infrastructure provision in the Asokoro extension. Wike said the government is committed to delivering programmes that would make the lives of residents better. He urged residents to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration to enable it to deliver more projects.
Wike’s comments come on the heels of President Tinubu’s recent commissioning of several road projects in the FCT. The president has emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for citizens. According to reports, the FCT Administration has constructed over 150 kilometers of roads in satellite towns across the six area councils since May 2023.
The FCT Minister’s call for residents to pay their taxes is part of the government’s efforts to sustain its infrastructure development projects. Wike assured residents that the government is committed to providing modern infrastructure and social amenities that would improve their lives. He urged residents to take advantage of the job opportunities created by the road construction projects and to support the government’s efforts to develop the nation’s capital.
The development of Abuja’s infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of residents, with many welcoming the government’s efforts to improve road networks and provide employment opportunities. As the government continues to invest in infrastructure development, residents are optimistic that their lives will improve significantly in the years to come. With the government’s commitment to delivering more projects, Abuja is set to become a modern city with world-class infrastructure.
