Agbamuche-Mbu Replaces Yakubu As INEC Chairman

Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu has been appointed as acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This followed the end of second and final five-year tenure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Prof. Yakubu who was given a second term in office in November 2020, was first appointed INEC Chairman in 2015. He tenure supposed to end next month.

Prof.Yakubu announced his departure at a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Tuesday.

Agbamuche-Mbu who until her appointment, was INEC National Commissioner in charge of Legal Services, Clearance & Complaints Committee (LSCCC).

A seasoned legal practitioner, the acting Chairman is the highest ranking INEC National Commissioner.

Prof. Yakubu in an emotional speech, thanked the staff and RECs for their dedication, commitment, and hard work throughout his time leading the electoral body.
