C’River PDP elects Venatius Ikem for another term

The Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State has held its State Congress which reelected Barr. Venatius Ikem as its chairman.

The election, which was controversial before the congress was held turned out peaceful as as loyal party members swarmed the venue, Venetian hall in their numbers.

Personalities who graced the event included the Senator representing northern Cross River State, Senator Jarigbe Àgom Jarigbe , former Deputy Governor, Mr. Effiok Cobham who is also current member of the Board of Trustees of the party, among others.

Speaking on the sideline of the event, Senator Jarigbe Àgom Jarigbe said he was at the event to watch it and that it was a “sanctioned” event from the national headquarters.

Asked if he was aware that the national Working Committee of the party had postponed the event earlier, he said: we are here and this is a genuine event going on.”

On his part, the newly elected state chairman of the part, Venatius Ikem acknowledged that his leadership in the first term made some mistakes which called for his removal.

“I admit that we made some mistakes which we will correct because we took everything for granted. We had a mandate which was stolen from us and we did not envisage it but only to realize that somebody whom we trusted decided to take our mandate away,” Ikem said

He however assured that the next election will be a different ball game “because Cross River State is PSP and PDP is Cross River State.”
