Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has congratulated Ekuma Jeremiah, the Lagos traffic hawker who went viral in 2022, after he successfully completed a law degree at Ebonyi State University.
Ekuma first gained national attention in January 2022 when a video of him sharing cash with inmates inside a Nigerian Correctional Service bus in Ajah, Lagos, circulated online. His act of generosity attracted widespread praise and the attention of prominent Nigerians, including Obi Cubana.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Cubana revealed that after their initial meeting, Ekuma declined immediate offers of cash and opportunities, choosing instead to return to school.
“On 19th January 2022, when the offers were placed before you, you chose education! You made the best choice. Today you are a 2025 law graduate,” Cubana wrote.
“You could have chosen to take the money and walk away to temporary comfort, but you were wise to choose education. Today you have both education and the money, and more ahead! Congratulations, Jerry, the world is yours!” he added, while appreciating associates Daddy Freeze and Hyman for supporting Ekuma’s journey.
Cubana also emphasized that the “bigger job” lies ahead, stressing that Ekuma “must be successful.”
Fans and well-wishers joined in celebrating the achievement. One user, Yetunited, commented: “And may almighty come to bless, guide and guard you sir. You do this one o. Congratulations Jerry.” Another, Therayztv, praised Cubana’s support, writing: “God bless you my Chairman your kindness knows no bounds.”
