I slept at Police Station on my First Day in Lagos

Afrobeats artist, Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has shared that he was arrested and spent the night in a police station on the first day he arrived Lagos State.

The fast-rising Afrobeats star, who moved to Lagos in 2018 to pursue a career in music, recounted the story during a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos.

He described his first night in the city of Lagos as an ordeal that almost made him give up on his dreams.

Fola stated that, “The very first day I came to Lagos, I was arrested. I slept at the police station. It was a long story. I don’t want to remember it. I almost gave up.

“I relocated to Lagos in 2018 to pursue my music career. It has been rough but… I wasn’t born here, so it was so hard at first, but I have adapted to both the living conditions and the hustle,” he added.

Although his journey began with challenges, Fola attributed his ability to adapt to Lagos’s fast-paced lifestyle to his resilience and determination.

The singer gained more recognition in the Nigerian music industry after signing with Bella Shmurda’s record label, Dangbani Republik, in October 2024.

His growing catalogue includes tracks such as Alone, Feeling, Mandela, Oh No with Oberz and Who Does That, a collaboration with Bella Shmurda.
