Dr. Peter Oyewole delivers visionary keynote at SFIT awards

In a ceremony that celebrated courage, creativity, and care in education, Dr Peter Oyewole, a Curriculum and Instruction expert, delivered a keynote address at the 2025 Summer Fellowship for Innovative Teaching (SFIT) Awards Ceremony.

This is more than three-decade initiative by the Murdock-Thompson Center for Teachers (M-TC), USA, co-hosted by the Intellectual Giants in Africa Foundation (INGAF).

The award held on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Abuja, streamed live to audiences across Africa and the diaspora, the event honored educators who exemplify innovation in their classrooms.

Anchored by the theme “Harnessing Innovation to Shape Our Children’s Future,” the ceremony spotlighted transformative teaching practices that prepare learners for a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Oyewole’s keynote, titled “Teaching for Every Child,” challenged attendees to reimagine teaching as a communal act rooted in inclusive design.

His address outlined three Universal Design for Learning (UDL)-aligned moves—Engagement, Representation, and Action and Expression, offering educators practical strategies to make learning matter, make ideas visible, and allow students to show understanding in diverse ways.

The ceremony also featured:
remarks from Segun Abiri, Institute of Non-Formal Education Practitioners (INFEP) and from M-TC President William Lavin.

Also, a tribute by M-TC Board Member Victor Adegboye and
presentation by former SFIT winner Mrs. Senami (2022).

It also featured saxophone performance that closed the event with emotional resonance.

Dr Oyewole’s keynote is emotionally deep and relevant to today’s educational challenges.

Teachers, families, and policymakers alike were moved by his call to recognize the unseen learners and to build classrooms that reflect courage, creativity, and care.

Since its founding in 1995, the SFIT Awards Ceremony has served as a platform for celebrating teaching excellence.
