Jennifer, the lady whose courtroom video went viral after being sentenced to seven years in prison for failing to honour a trip despite receiving N50,000 from a man, has spoken out.
She explained that Emmanuel, a man she only met online, pressured her to travel from Asaba to Abuja after sending her the money. Uncomfortable with the demand, she ignored his calls and later received threats from his friends.
Jennifer claimed she offered to refund the money, but Emmanuel refused to provide his account details. Instead, the matter escalated to court, where she was sentenced but given the option of paying a N450,000 fine.
She confirmed the issue has since been resolved after paying the fine, adding that she was surprised Emmanuel insisted on the travel despite the amount being “nothing” to her.
Her case has stirred online debates about money, online relationships, and when private issues spill into legal battles.
