Nigeria Governors’ Forum Revamps Secretariat with Fresh Leadership Appointments

The NGF has unveiled a new management structure, appointing seasoned experts across various portfolios to strengthen its Secretariat and sharpen its policy direction.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has introduced sweeping changes at its Secretariat, unveiling a team of directors drawn from diverse fields in what it calls a repositioning for stronger service delivery. The appointments follow an organizational review conducted by Deloitte, which recommended a complete reengineering of internal structures to make the Forum more agile and globally aligned.

In a statement issued by its Media and Strategic Communications head, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the Forum explained that the restructuring reflects the vision of its Director General, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, who endorsed the reforms to ensure the Secretariat is better equipped to support Nigeria’s 36 governors.

The shake-up places finance, research, gender affairs, programs, energy, and security under new leadership. Edmund O. Nnaji now oversees finance and administration, bringing expertise in corporate governance and fiscal management. Dauda Olalekan Yinusa, an economist and former state commissioner, takes charge of policy, strategy, and research, while Ahmad Abdulwahab, with years of experience in public health across Africa, leads programs and partnerships.

Legal and energy affairs will be managed by Chuku Chijioke Chuku, a reform-driven lawyer, while Hauwa Haliru-Hassan has been named to direct gender affairs and at the same time head the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum. The security desk will rely on the knowledge of Ibrahim Ahmad Katsina, recognized for his work in peacebuilding and intelligence. Communication and media strategy remain under the watch of Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, who has been a voice for the Forum.

According to the NGF, the restructuring represents a conscious effort to strengthen internal capacity, deepen engagement with partners, and push forward the agenda of effective governance. By professionalizing its leadership, the Forum believes it is building a Secretariat capable of tackling the country’s pressing issues, from insecurity to fiscal reform, while serving as a stronger platform for collaboration among state governments.
