JUST IN: Passenger who attacked Ibom Air crew sent to Kirikiri prison

A passenger, Comfort Emmanson, has been sent to Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos after allegedly assaulting crew members on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.

The Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Tunde Moshood, confirmed the news on Monday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Moshood, Emmanson has been charged to court and is now in custody. He used the opportunity to remind air travelers to behave responsibly, stressing that unruly conduct will not be tolerated.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has recently warned that it will enforce stricter penalties for disruptive behavior at airports and on flights.

A viral video from the incident showed Emmanson slapping a flight purser after being asked to switch off her phone before take-off. Ibom Air said she also tried to seize a fire extinguisher, allegedly intending to damage the aircraft.

Following the incident, the airline announced she has been banned from all future flights with the carrier.
