FG, states, private sector renew partnership to boost food security

The Federal, State governments and private sector players have reaffirmed commitment to initiatives and investments that promote food security in the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, who over the weekend visited a mega rice farm in Ayarkeke, Awe Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, said the collaboration between the governments and other stakeholders was to ensure speedy implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in agriculture.

The farm site visited is 1,300-hectare rice farm in Jangwa, Nasarawa State—one of the Legacy Agricultural Projects of the Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, was said to have the capacity to increase rice production, both for local consumption and export.

Kyari noted that the government has several initiatives targeting specially the youths to venture into agriculture and contribute to economic growth of the country.

The Minister said he visited the farm to, “ underscored the shared commitment of both federal and state governments towards achieving food self-sufficiency and fostering inclusive agricultural development’’.

According to the Minister, ‘’ “the youths are the promise of tomorrow. When we invest in them today, we are securing the future of our nation,”.

He also pledged ‘’to return after harvest to assess the positive impact of the initiative on the lives of the people’’.

Also speaking, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule that his state was investing in rice production to remain at the top of the highest producers of rice in the country.

Sule also disclosed that the rice project has provided the Nasarawa State government the opportunity to productively engage the youths and reduce crime.
