Sokoto State Government is reviewing its bond agreement with sponsored students to ensure they give back to the state after benefiting from government sponsorship for 15 years.
State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, made this known while receiving executive members of the Sokoto Professionals Association who paid him a courtesy visit.
Gobir said the proposed bond would require students to serve the state for 15 years before they can seek employment elsewhere.
The Deputy Governor explained that this measure aims to ensure that students reciprocate the government’s investment in their education.
He also requested the association’s assistance in providing career guidance to state indigenes, helping them pursue in-demand courses and acquire essential skills.
The state government expressed its willingness to partner with the association to achieve its objectives.
Earlier, the Association’s Chairman, Engineer Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, stated that the association is non-partisan and dedicated to supporting indigenes in pursuing professional courses.
Engineer Yabo informed the Deputy Governor that the association has trained several indigenes in leadership, entrepreneurship, and ICT.
He assured the Deputy Governor of the association’s readiness to partner with the government for the state’s development.
The Chairman presented the association’s newsletter and a plaque to the Deputy Governor.
