Like Super Falcons, D’Tigress Get National Honours, $100,000 Each for Afrobasket Victory

President Bola Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament.

Each player will receive $100,000 and a flat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Members of the technical crew will get $50,000 each, along with the house gift.

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the rewards on Monday when he received the team at the Presidential Villa on behalf of the president.

D’Tigress defeated Mali 78-64 in Saturday’s final played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

With the win, Nigeria made history as the first country to win the women’s Afrobasket championship five times in a row. The team also qualified automatically for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

In addition to the monetary rewards and house gifts, President Tinubu also conferred national honours on all members of the team, awarding them the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
