Presidency dismisses concerns about Tinubu's health

Says President capable of leading

The Presidency has dismissed concerns about the President Bola Tinubu’s health
saying that he is physically fit and capable of leading the country.

Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media to the President, Daniel Bwala, said this in response to the concerns raised by some critics based on his frequent medical trips abroad.

Speaking during an interview with DW Africa, Bwala said “In fact, the president of Nigeria physically is fitter than most presidents in the advanced countries.”

However, a Tiktoker, Ghali Isma’il, has been sent to the Keffi Correctional Centre by a Magistrate Court in Abuja after he posted a video on TikTok falsely claiming that the President had died due to a serious illness caused by poisoning.

Isma’il, who is from Jogana village in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) days after uploading the video on his verified handle, @bola_asiwaju.

He was taken to court on a two-count charge related to spreading false information and attempting to stir public unrest.

The first charge stated that on July 20, 2025, he shared a video where he claimed, based on what he described as official sources, that President Tinubu was gravely ill and had been poisoned.

The charge said the action was intended to cause fear and disturb public order, an offence under Nigerian law.

The second charge accused him of trying to turn the public against the President by using the same video to push a false story.

The authorities described this as an attempt to spread hate or disaffection against the government.

The presiding magistrate, Ekpeyong Iyang, refused his request for bail and ordered that he be kept in prison custody until the case resumes on August 19.
