Anambra to host Nigeria’s biggest boxing title fight

Zeus Sports Ltd has announced plans to stage Nigeria’s biggest boxing event with the World Boxing Federation (WBF) in Anambra.

Emmanuel Emenogu, a renowned sports promoter said this while speaking with sports journalists in Awka.

Emenogu said the heavyweight boxing match christened the “Solution Bout” would feature Nigeria’s own Taiwo Agbaje and Thomas Masin from France in a WBF title fight.

He said there would be a series of fights before the main event to give a full day of boxing entertainment.

Emenogu said WBF officially approved a heavyweight boxing match and that Zeus Sports had decided to host the event at the new Solution Fun City, a state-of-the-art facility entertainment centre in Awka, the capital of Anambra.

He said the choice of Anambra was because it was accessible to the world with a functional airport, conducive hospitality environment and rich cultural history which would be a delight to visitors from across the world.

“The match will mark a significant milestone because it is going to be the first of its kind to be hosted in Southeast and Nigeria in general and the second in the entire Africa.

“The “Solution Bout’ is expected to attract significant global attention, with an estimated 120 million viewers set to watch the event from home in the United States alone.

“It will showcase the cultural richness and hospitality of Anambra and Southeast; and counter negative perceptions about the alleged insecurity in the area.

“This is an opportunity to send a strong message that our people are peaceful and hospitable,”he said.

Also speaking, Odira Ezeh, the Project Coordinator of ‘Solution Bout’ said the event was to showcase the hospitality and entertainment potentials of Anambra.

Ezeh described Gov. Chukwuma Soludo as a sports enthusiast who has made significant investments in world-class facilities, creating the ideal environment for hosting an international boxing event.

“Anambra will be welcoming the world, and our governor, Prof. Soludo, will serve as the chief host,” he added.
