In honour of the late former president Muhammadu Buhari, President Bola Tinubu has renamed the University of Maiduguri in Borno State to **Muhammadu Buhari University**.
Tinubu made the announcement during a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held at the Aso Rock Villa, where he praised Buhari’s life of discipline, integrity, and patriotism.
“President Buhari was not a perfect man—no leader is—but he was, in every sense, a good man… the incorruptible standard he represented will not be forgotten,” Tinubu said.
He also highlighted Buhari’s simplicity, noting how he quietly returned to Daura after office and avoided interfering in governance. Tinubu recalled their political partnership and how they worked together to achieve Nigeria’s first peaceful transfer of power between political parties in 2015.
The President ended his tribute with a prayer:
“Mai Gaskiya, the People’s General, the Farmer President… your duty is done. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
The renaming of the university marks one of the key tributes following Buhari’s burial earlier in the week.
