A group under the umbrella of Concerned Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has kick against endorsement of a governorship candidate for the party in the state ahead of the 2027 election.
The group said adopting a particular governorship candidate unilaterally was capable of creating tension and division in the party as the action violets internal democratic principles.
Spokesperson of the group, Jibrin Ibrahim stated this at a press conference held at the NUJ press center in Lafia on Tuesday.
He stated that the elders, youths and women of the party from across the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state are against such decision, saying, it threatens the principle of internal democracy and the unity of the party.
The spokesperson stated that the group would not allowed some few self-serving individuals who sat somewhere in Lafia and adopted a consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election to create confusion and disunity in the party.
“This so-called adoption is undemocratic and does not reflect the will of the majority of the party members across the state.
“We reject it in totality because this charade and manipulation will undermine the party and cause further problems for us,”
He noted that the party was founded on the ideals of democracy, inclusiveness, and fairness, saying the processes for the emergence of candidates must be transparent and credible in line with the constitution of the party.
They therefore urged all aspirants seeking election in the party to go about their consultation as they await the primary election.
Reacting, chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Nasarawa state, Adamu Ninga, said that the party was not aware of the matter, saying, the party under hus leadership had not endorsed any candidate for the 2027 election.
He said that it was not yet time for the party to talk and would speak at the most appropriate time.
