NNPP Chairman Denies Kwankwaso’s Defection Rumors

NNPP Kano Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa has refuted claims that Rabiu Kwankwaso is planning to leave the party for ADC, calling the rumours politically motivated.

The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has dismissed speculation that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Addressing the media on Monday, Dungurawa described the rumours as baseless and politically motivated. He emphasized that Kwankwaso is a deeply strategic thinker who doesn’t take political decisions lightly.

“The idea of him joining ADC or any other party is nothing but a miscalculation by those intimidated by the strength of the Kwankwasiyya Movement,” he said. “He is not in a hurry to show where he’s going.”

Dungurawa also highlighted Kwankwaso’s significant influence in Northern politics, asserting that he remains a pillar for politicians in the region.

Commenting on Kwankwaso’s engagements with other political groups, he stated, “He is a politician with a PhD. He can meet and speak with anyone without it meaning defection. That’s normal.”

He further criticized those close to Kwankwaso who express fear over his next political move, calling them “pretender followers.” According to him, real supporters understand that Kwankwaso always consults widely before making any decisions.

Dungurawa also praised the achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, saying his infrastructural strides have silenced opposition voices in the state. “The opposition is overwhelmed. They can’t be seen anywhere,” he said confidently.
