The All Progressives Congress (APC) Integrity Group has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for resolving the Executive Chairman succession crisis in the Federal Character Commission FCC and appointing Hon. Kayode Oladele as the Acting chairman of the Commission.
The APC good governance group gave the applaud in statement they issued on Abuja.
According to them, the quick intervention of the President saved an ugly situation in the Commission when the staff protested against the reappointment of the former Executive Chairman, Muheeba Farida Dankaka.
Hon. Oladele, the Commissioner representing Ogun State on the FCC, was on July 1st appointed the Acting Executive Chairman of the Commission after the expiration of the tenure of the Chairman, Dr. Muheeba Farida Dankaka.
Since the establishment of the Commission, the headship has been from the Northern zone, with North Central dominating on the number of years.
Those who had served as Executive Chairmen are: Alh. Adamu M. Fika 1996-2001 North East; Alh. Bello Kofar-Bai 2002-2005 North West; Prof. Shuaibu Oba Abdul-Raham 2007-2014 North Central; and Dr. Muheeba Farida Dankaka 2020-2025 North Central.
The Group in the statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Malam Dawu Mohammed and Secretary, Chisom Nwakama respectively said in the spirit of Federal Character, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should appoint a Southerner as the Executive Chairman of the Commission.
The Group argued that for 30 years, a Commission established to distribute power between North and South, had found itself concentrating power in the North.
In line with this, they posited that the Acting chairman of the Commission, Hon. Kayode Oladele fits all the boxes as a substantive Executive Chairman.
They reeled out the credentials of the Acting Executive Chairman who is a Human Right Activist and a legal luminary to include former member House of Representatives.
Oladele also served as legal adviser to the governor of Ogun State and member of the State Executive Council from 2008 to 2011. He was appointed by the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun as the Chairman of a 20-member Peace-Building Committee to determine the root cause of the incessant deadly clashes between the farmers and herders in Ogun West Senatorial District of the State, proffer lasting solutions and ensure that peace and harmony continue to reign in the area and the State.
The Integrity Group statement reads in part: “considering lopsidedness in the appointment of the Chairman of the FCC in the last thirty years, we feel persuaded that the next substantive Executive Chairman should come from the South.
“In the last dispensation, both the Executive Chairman and the Secretary were from the North.
“And for the Acting chairman of the Commission, Hon. Kayode Oladele, we consider him eminently qualified to be confirmed as a substantive Executive Chairman.
“His credentials as a Human Right Activist, Chief of Staff to the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Financial Crimes are testaments that he would execute the mandate of the Commission.
“We also commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his quick response to resolving the crisis in the FCC over the agitation against the reappointment of the former Executive Chairman, Dr. Muheeba Farida Dankaka.”
