The South-West Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially distanced itself from a coalition of opposition political parties recently formed ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a communiqué issued after a caucus meeting at the PDP Zonal Secretariat in Ibadan, Zonal Publicity Secretary Sanya Atofarati reaffirmed the region’s full loyalty to the PDP’s existing leadership and vision.
This comes after reports that several opposition figures—including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, and others—had endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a joint platform for 2027.
“The PDP in South-West is intact… we are not part of the reported coalition,” Atofarati said.
He urged members to remain steadfast and support PDP leaders in the zone, especially Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun, for their efforts in maintaining the party’s stability.
The caucus also demanded that the Federal Government release Osun State’s withheld Local Government allocation, calling the delay unconstitutional and harmful to grassroots development.
The statement emphasized the party’s focus on upcoming elections, including bye-elections in Ogun and local council elections in Lagos, with the goal of delivering sweeping victories.
It concluded with a strong critique of the APC-led government, accusing it of worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
“The 2027 election will be between Nigerians and the APC,” Atofarati quoted Governor Makinde as saying.
