Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has proven that true leadership doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. On Sunday, despite being suspended, the senator representing Kogi Central officially flagged off the construction of two smart markets in Okene and Okehi Local Government Areas.
The projects are tailored to uplift local traders—especially women—and inject fresh life into grassroots economies. Each smart market will consist of 80 shops, made up of 40 lock-up units and 40 open stalls. But these aren’t just regular markets—they’ll feature solar-powered electricity, boreholes, modern toilets, sockets in every shop, truck-friendly loading bays, and streetlights to improve safety and efficiency.
According to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, these markets are part of her wider plan for Kogi Central and will be completed and ready for commissioning by November 2025, just in time for her second anniversary in office.
Speaking during the event, the senator reaffirmed that her commitment to the people goes beyond political differences. “Politics ends after elections. What truly matters is performance—and I serve every good person of Kogi Central, regardless of party lines,” she said.
She emphasized that her suspension did not stop her from serving. Instead, it motivated her to focus more on delivering meaningful development to her constituency.
The event was well-attended by traditional leaders, women’s groups, and youth organizations, all of whom praised her resilience and unwavering dedication. Despite political hurdles, Senator Natasha continues to push boundaries and bring change to her people.
