Lagos Island was thrown into panic early Thursday morning after a building suddenly collapsed along Adeniji Adele Road, Isale Eko, leaving several residents injured and rushed to nearby hospitals.
The tragic incident prompted a swift emergency response from LASTMA, the Nigerian Police, and other rescue teams, who arrived at the scene shortly after the collapse.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, victims who were trapped beneath the rubble were successfully pulled out and are now receiving medical attention.
“There is a report of an overnight collapsed building… Victims rescued from the building have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” LASTMA confirmed.
Though the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, emergency workers are still at the scene as search and rescue operations continue. The cause of the collapse has not been officially announced, but poor structural integrity and aging buildings are frequent culprits in the area.
To ease traffic in the affected zone, LASTMA has diverted vehicles from Zenith back through Oba’s Palace to connect with Enu Owa Road, ensuring smooth movement for commuters.
The building site has been sealed off, with ongoing efforts to assess the full damage and prevent further danger to surrounding residents.
