Former Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai, dies at 61

Nigeria has lost one of its football legends, Peter Rufai, who passed away at the age of 61

The former Super Eagles goalkeeper reportedly died around 7am on Thursday after battling an illness. His death was confirmed by two former Nigerian international players, Harrison Jalla and Friday Ekpo, who shared the sad news with our correspondent.
Peter Rufai, fondly called “Dodo Mayana” by fans, was one of the most respected goalkeepers in Nigerian football history. He represented Nigeria at the highest level, including the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, which the Super Eagles won, and also played at two FIFA World Cups.

He also had a successful club career in Europe, especially in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Portugal, where he played for clubs like Deportivo La Coruña and Farense.
