Shock in Adamawa as Atiku Loses Waziri Title Over New Indigene Policy

In a major political shake-up, the Adamawa State Government has officially stripped former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of his prestigious title, Waziri Adamawa.

This move comes after a new indigeneship policy was introduced, restricting traditional emirate council titles to individuals from specific districts in the state.

A circular dated June 20, 2025, revealed that only residents from Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Mayo-Belwa, Song, and Zumo now qualify for such honors. Atiku, who hails from Jada in the Ganye Chiefdom, has therefore been disqualified under the new rules.

The decision has stirred strong reactions across political circles and among Atiku’s supporters, many of whom view the action as politically motivated. The state government has not issued further comments on the motive behind the policy change.
