EFCC asked to investigate Tinubu over reported ₦266.25m budget for one streetlight

A concerned Nigerian has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate President Bola Tinubu over an alleged budget of ₦266.25 million for a single streetlight.
The allegation was made in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @Ode_Luwa, who urged the anti-corruption agency to take immediate action.
In the post, the user wrote: “Dear @officialEFCC, your attention is greatly needed here. How can President Tinubu’s administration budget ₦393.2 billion for just 1,477 streetlights—₦266.25 million for a single streetlight pole? This amount is enough to build a massive streetlight factory and solve Nigeria’s streetlight problems permanently.”
The user also raised concerns about another budget item:
“Another ₦114.53 billion was budgeted for just 538 boreholes—that’s ₦211 million to sink a single borehole. This is completely ridiculous and makes no sense. Please investigate this as soon as possible. This is a great injustice to every Nigerian.”
As the post circulated online, many Nigerians took to the comment section to express their outrage and demand transparency and accountability.
