Traditional Rulers in the 179 Communities in Anambra state have been charged to ensure peaceful and crime free traditional festivities in their respective domains.
This charge is in a commendable response to the successful celebration of the Imo Awka Festival in the state capital last week.
Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu at a courtesy visit to the Traditional Ruler of Awka Eze Uzu Gibson Nwosu described the last Imo Awka Festival as most peaceful in history urging that other Traditional Rulers needs to emulate what he called template for the celebration of other festivals in their respective Communities.
“The Command wishes to commend the Awka Community for this hitch free festival which in the past used to be an exhibition of criminality by miscreants during the occasion and we commend the people of Awka and the Royal Cabinet for that “
“The Command is committed towards peace and security in all the Communities in Anambra state and we urge the other Communities in Anambra state to emulate this while assuring the Communities of security of lives and property ” he noted .
The CP noted that such commitment to peace by Awka indigenes and residents reflected on the recent celebration of Imoka Festival which recorded crime-free and zero-violent activities against the information received overtime on how miscreants under the guise of celebration become unruly and make life unbearable for the good people of the State.
