The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prince Sesi Whingan, has inaugurated school projects and free ride buses to ensure safe and reliable transportation in his constituency.
Speaking before the inauguration, Whingan said the initiatives are a testament to his commitment to education.
According to him, this is a commitment that echoes the pioneering spirit of Badagry’s educational history.
He said: “Badagry holds a special place in the history of education in Nigeria. It was here, in 1842, that Western education was first introduced to our nation by the Wesleyan Methodist Church.
“The first primary school, St. Thomas’ Anglican Primary School, was established in Badagry, marking the beginning of a journey that has shaped generations.
“This historic milestone reminds us of the power of education to change lives and the responsibility we have to continue this legacy.
“Today, as we stand on the shoulders of those early pioneers, we are adding another chapter to Badagry’s educational story.
“As your representative, I am committed to ensuring that the children of Badagry have the resources they need to succeed.”
Whingan said the projects include construction of a block of 6 classrooms at Mowo Community Secondary School and another a block of 4 classrooms at Anglican Primary School, Gbanko.
“Other are renovation of 14 units of school toilets at Ansar-Ud-Deen Junior Grammar School and renovation of a block of 6 classrooms at St. Leo’s Primary School, Ikoga.
“The unveiling of two Badagry Free School Ride Buses, ensuring safe and reliable transportation to school and provision of school sandals to 2,000 students at primary and secondary levels. “The supply of whiteboards and whiteboard markers to primary and secondary schools and supply of portable stainless lunchboxes for teachers.
“The distribution of learning materials such as Maths Sets, calculators, exercise books, biros, and pencils to 2,000 primary and secondary school students and supply of blackboards, dusters, pencils, crayons, and school office utilities.
“And lastly, the distribution of students’ desks and chairs, creating a comfortable space for learning,” he said.
Whingan urged the students to study hard with the resources he provided to support their education adding that they are the future of Badagry.
Whingan advised the parents and teachers to continue to work together to uphold Badagry’s educational heritage.
Mr Dauda Hassan, the Lagos State Tutor-General Permanent Secretary of Education said the gestures would alleviate the suffering of the children of the masses.
Hassan who represented the Lagos commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun said the free ride buses to their respective schools would make them more comfortable on their way to school.
Dr Hakeem Shittu, the Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) said the materials being distributed by Whingan are seeds of knowledge, empowerment, and opportunity.
He commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the lawmaker for their unwavering support and investment in education, and to all our stakeholders and partners who have made the day possible.
Alhaja Modinat Adebayo, the Education Secretary, Badagry Local Government Area, said the structures and facilities provided by the lawmaker would make studying easier for students in Badagry.
Emmanuel Ayeni, a student of Mowo Junior Secondary School, Age-Mowo, Badagry said the facilities provided by the lawmaker would make learning easier for them
Ayeni assured the lawmaker that they would be more serious in the study, adding that they would make Badagry proud.
