PDP crisis: Govs' deal with Wike false, mere propaganda – CP-PDP

The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has described as false and misleading, the report that a deal was reached between PDP governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on how to end the crisis in the party.

The meeting reportedly held in Lagos between Wike and Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde on the issues relating to the party’s leadership and activities.

But the CP-PDP in a statement by Protem National Coordinator, Obinna Nwachukwu, said it has investigated the report and found same to be incorrect and misleading.

The conference alleged that “the report emanated from desperate anti-PDP elements who are disconcerted that Chief Wike’s hold on the PDP is being weakened ahead of the deciding May 27, 2025 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.”

According to the group, it was meant to mislead the media and cause confusion in the party by creating the impression that PDP governors had struck a compromising deal with the minister.

CP-PDP added that anti-PDP elements were apprehensive that the FCT minister would be expelled from the party at the NEC meeting for his anti-party activities, which also involved publicly declaring to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 FCT Council election and 2027 presidential election.

“Their apprehension is worsened by anxieties that the FCT minister is not guaranteed any real accommodation in the APC if he is expelled from the PDP,” the group said.

It declared that there is no going back on Wike’s expulsion from the PDP, disclosing that governors elected on the platform of the PDP and other leaders of the party were not happy with Wike’s anti-PDP activities.

According to the CP-PDP, Wike’s expulsion and imposition of appropriate sanctions on party members who have aligned with the APC, will top the agenda at the NEC meeting.

It pledged support to PDP governors in the determination to stabilise the party, and called on members of the public to disregard the report of an agreement with the FCT minister.

“Chief Wike should leave the PDP alone. He should go and become a member of the failed APC and contend with the looming political oblivion that awaits the APC; a vicious and anti-people party whose hold on our nation will definitely terminate on May 29, 2027,” the conference demanded.
