Insecurity: 20 Sokoto Villages Displaced, Residents Seek Shelter in Gatawa Town

Residents from at least 20 villages in Sokoto State, including Zangon Malam, Gamji, and Dankaka, have fled their homes due to bandit activities and are seeking refuge in Gatawa Town, Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

Others are Dangaida,Dan Kura,Makira,Shabanza, Katsalle, Dan Kura, Garin Tunkiya, Dama, Dan Tazako I, Dan Tazako II, Dan Tazako III and  Gaugai village among others .

The displaced persons believe the attacks are orchestrated by a bandits Kallamu, loyal to Bello Turji, a notorious kingpin.

Local sources confirmed the influx of refugees, stating that some are staying with relatives, while others are sheltering in two secondary schools in Gatawa.

However,the sudden arrival has caused fear and confusion in the host community according the some people of the community.

A community leader  who identified himself as Mallam Saminu, and spoke with our correspondent on telephone confirmed the development saying the victims are in dire need of help to settle.

Efforts to get a response from the state government were unsuccessful, with the Special Adviser on Security Matters unavailable for comment.

The state police command’s spokesman promised to respond once he gathered more information.
