Members of Labour Party in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State have accused House of Representatives member, George Adegeye, of trying to impose candidates on them, ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Reliable source revealed that Adegeye gave the stern warning during a closed-door meeting with Ward Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Secretaries, and Youth Leaders in the council .
“Accept my anointed candidate, Engr. Seyi Ipinlaye, and other preferred aspirants, or risk losing his support in the elections,” he said.
The source revealed that the statement had ignited fury among party members, who accuse the lawmaker of high-handedness and undermining internal democracy.
Many argue that such imposition contradicts the LP’s core principles of fairness and grassroots participation.
The source also alleged that the Amuwo Odofin LP Chairman, Mr. Obina, remained silent, fearing removal if he challenges Adegeye’s directive.
The lawmaker has reportedly intimidated executives at all levels—LGA to Wards—into submission, leaving many disillusioned.
“He always threatens the entire executive—no one dares oppose him,” a party insider disclosed anonymously.
“If the national leadership doesn’t intervene, the party may lose credibility here,” the source said.
With discontent brewing, stakeholders are calling for urgent intervention from the Labour Party’s national leadership to prevent a full-blown crisis.
Key questions remain: Will Adegeye’s hardline stance prevail? Can the party reconcile aggrieved members before the elections?
Will the LP risk losing grassroots support over imposition allegations?
As the Crisis unfolds, Amuwo Odofin’s political future hangs in the balance. One thing is clear: the Labour Party must act fast to save its image—or face dire consequences.
