The Sokoto State Water Board has described as unfortunate the brief water shortages experienced by residents of Sokoto.
The General Manager of the board, Engr. Aminu Mika’ilu Haruna, stated this while briefing newsmen on the situation of the board’s operations.
He expressed sadness over the acute water supply shortages witnessed within the state metropolis, adding that the board inherited some of the challenges from previous administrations.
He attributed the water shortages to external factors beyond the board’s control, particularly those related to energy and water supply from source rivers.
On efforts to address the challenges, Haruna said the repair of two 150 and 200 KVA capacity generators was nearly completed.
According to him, this would resolve the energy issues affecting water treatment and supply.
“We ran into unfortunate circumstances that resulted in the brief shortages of water supply to the populace,” he said.
The board apologized to the Sokoto community for the inconvenience, acknowledging the challenges of the dry season and the frustration it caused.
Haruna expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for helping the board overcome the situation.
He noted that water supply had already resumed to a larger portion of the Sokoto metropolis and would soon be extended to other parts of the state.
The GM commended the Sokoto State Governor’s efforts to improve the livelihood of the common man, stating that the governor’s support for the board had been evident since its inception.
