Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of Labour Party Mr. Peter Obi and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Uche Secondus, have urged all Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of love and selfless sacrifice exemplified by Jesus Christ.
In their separate messages to Nigeria Christians to mark this year’s Easter celebration, the trio also called for prayers to enable Nigeria overcome her numerous challenges.
Atiku in a statement by his media office, noted that Nigeria needs peace and unity especially now when narrow and sectional interests threaten to erode the bonds that hold the nation together.
Said he, “we join our Christian brothers and sisters in celebrating Easter – a sacred moment that commemorates the profound sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“It is a season that calls for deep introspection, compassion, and reaching out to those in need.’
The former vice president called on Nigerians of all faith and ethnicities to unite in prayer and purpose for the peace and progress of the nation.
“Let us remain steadfast in the pursuit of unity across every divide.
“Our strength as a people lies in our togetherness. A nation united shall always endure and flourish,” he affirmed.
Atiku expressed the belief that Nigeria would overcome her present trials, adding, “Though evil may momentarily cast a shadow, the collective goodness and resilience of Nigerians will prevail. In unity and shared purpose, our nation shall rise.”
He urged leaders at every level of government, to use the Easter period as a time of introspection and embrace the spirit of the season to recommit to their sacred duty of service.
“Our leaders must be guided by the principles of sacrifice, love, and charity.
“It is only through sincere collaboration that we can heal our divisions and renew our national hope.
“We must resist every attempt to deepen fault lines, for our challenges are not born of ethnicity or religion, but of a failure to build common understanding,” Atiku advised.
Obi in his own message by spokesman of Peter Obi Media, Ibrahim Umar, called on Nigerian Christians to use the Easter period to pray for “compassionate” leaders who will share in their pains.
He noted that “there is no better time to pray for tender-hearted and caring leaders for our country than at Easter when we saw in Jesus a remarkable, compassionate leader.”
Obi regretted the spate of insecurity and myriads of problems that dogged the country, and blamed it on “visible abdication of responsibility by insensitive and indifferent leaders.”
The former Anambra State governor stated that Nigerians deserve better leadership than they are getting at the moment, and leader according to him, who will turn the natural and human capital gifts from God to the benefit of the populace.
Secondus in his message by his media aide Ike Abonyi, said Nigeria needs divine intervention in her affairs.
He decried the situation in his home state, Rivers, and called on President Bola Tinubu to be guided by the voice of reason and restore Governor Simi Fubara to office.
The former PDP National Chairman, regretted that Rivers State has found itself on the ugly side of history over the control of resources and the state by one man.
“My special appreciation goes to the Ijaw nation, its leaders and people, the indisputable fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria with over 30 LGAs across seven states, for managing the provocations,” he said.
