The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP), said only qualified and competent members of the party should aspire to contest the various positions in the forthcoming national conventions of the party.
The protem National Coordinator, Obinna Nwachukwu in a statement after the group’s weekly meeting, said the proposed May 27 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and early national convention in August proposed by PDP governors are major steps toward strengthening and returning the PDP to its winning ways ahead of the 2027 general election.
“This is especially bearing in mind that the leadership that emerges at the National Convention must be such that can effectively confront the ruling APC and rally Nigerians for the party’s victory at the 2027 general elections,” the conference stated.
It called on PDP leaders and members to set aside all forms of parochial personal, group or sectional interests and work with other like-minded entities to enthrone good leadership that has eluded the nation in the last 10 years of All Progressives Congress misrule.
Nwachukwu disclosed that “the CP-PDP as a proactive platform has commenced the process of activating its pro-bono mechanisms to massively rally Nigerians across political, professional, business, social, sectional and cultural circles across the six geo-political zones of the country,” for the convention.
He added that the CP-PDP has commenced consultations among members of the party with a view to making professional inputs that would help strengthen the party’s internal democracy and guarantee the election of the desired leadership for the PDP at the proposed National Convention.
“The CP-PDP restates its unalloyed commitment towards the unity, stability and growth of the PDP, the sustenance of democracy and propagation of good governance in the nation,” he added.
Nwachukwu commended the state governors for providing direction for the repositioning of the party for electoral success in 2027.
He also commends the governors and other leaders of the party for articulating the willingness of the PDP to work with other political parties, platforms, groups and patriotic Nigerians for a formidable front to wrest power from the APC in the 2027 general election.
