Respected Nigerian businessman and economist, Pascal Dozie, has passed away at the age of 84. Family sources confirmed that he died after a brief illness.
Dozie was a major figure in Nigeria’s financial and telecommunications sectors. He was the founder of Diamond Bank, which later merged with Access Bank, and also served as the Chairman of MTN Nigeria, where he played a big role in the company’s success and expansion.
Born on April 9, 1939, Pascal Dozie grew up in a Catholic home. His father, Charles Dozie, was a catechist. He attended Our Lady’s School, Emekuku, Holy Ghost Juniorate Seminary, and Holy Ghost College, Owerri, where he completed his secondary education.
He later moved to the United Kingdom for further studies. There, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, followed by studies in Operational Research and Industrial Engineering. He went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from City University, London.
Pascal Dozie made a lasting impact on Nigeria’s economy, both in banking and telecommunications. He founded Diamond Bank to provide financial services to individuals and businesses, and later helped shape the future of telecom in Nigeria as Chairman of MTN Nigeria.
He is survived by his wife, Chinyere, and their five children.
