The Presidency has described the N15.6 trillion Lagos-Calabar coastal highway as a visionary project that will boost Nigeria’s economy.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, made this statement on Thursday during an interview on Television Continental.
His remarks came in response to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who criticized the project as wasteful and corrupt. Obasanjo, in his new book Nigeria: Past and Future, also condemned the government’s N21 billion spending on a new residence for Vice President Kashim Shettima.
However, Dare defended the highway, comparing it to the Lekki-Epe corridor, which transformed Lagos over the years.
“When the Lekki-Epe corridor was opened, many doubted its value, but today, it has become a major hub for real estate, the Dangote refinery, and the Free Trade Zone,” he said.
He added that the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, once completed, will be one of Nigeria’s most significant infrastructure projects, with long-term benefits for the country’s economy.
