Police Uncover LASU Graduate’s Shallow Grave, Arrest Prime Suspect

The Lagos State Police Command has found the burial site of Adedamola Ogunbode, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, after arresting the main suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.

Ogunbode, who studied Political Science Education, went missing on January 16, 2025. His disappearance sparked rumors that his body had been found mutilated. After weeks of investigation, the police confirmed his shallow grave’s location on Tuesday, with the arrested suspect leading detectives to the site.

Last Friday, the police announced the arrest of three suspects and the ongoing search for five others linked to Ogunbode’s murder. Among those arrested was Pastor Whepetoji Sunday, accused of receiving N70,000 from the victim’s account, and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member who allegedly got N300,000.

Additionally, the mother of the prime suspect, Omolara Ajisomo, was arrested for allegedly helping her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, escape after receiving N300,000 each from the victim’s account.

Due to mounting pressure from the LASU students’ union, which threatened to stage a statewide protest, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.

The main suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested on Monday morning in the Alakuko area of Lagos. According to Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, Olaoluwa was responsible for emptying Ogunbode’s bank account using the victim’s mobile phone.

“The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested yesterday (Monday) morning in the Alakuko area. He was the one who withdrew all the money from the victim’s account through his phone,” Hundeyin confirmed.

There had been speculation that the victim’s body was buried within church premises, but Hundeyin clarified that the grave was actually somewhere within the community.

“The shallow grave is not in the church premises, but it is within the area. The church has been sealed off because we received intelligence that some people were planning to set it on fire in revenge. We do not want that to happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, police detectives are already on their way to exhume the victim’s body, following a confession by Olaoluwa Ajisomo.
A police source confirmed: “The newly arrested suspect has confessed to killing the LASU graduate, and officers are heading to the site where he was buried.”
When asked for further confirmation, Hundeyin responded with one word: “Confirmed.”
