Prince Sunday Oke, the chairmanship Aspirant in the coming Lagos State council election on Wednesday commended Federal Government and Rep Sesi Whingan, Badagry lawmaker in House of Representatives, for their efforts in securing N6bn for Gbaji-Apa-Owode road project.
Oke, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Hon Joseph Gbenu, the Chairman, Badagry-West LCDA, Lagos, gave the commendation during a press briefing in Apa, Badagry, Lagos.
According to him, as a community, the people of Badagry West in Lagos State have been anticipating the construction of the Owode-Apa Road.
“This vital road infrastructure project will not only improve our daily lives, but also enhance the economic development of our area.
“So, you can imagine the joy and excitement we felt upon hearing the news that 6 billion naira has been injected into the 2025 budget specifically for this project.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our Representative, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, for his efforts in securing this significant amount of funding for the Owode-Apa Road.
“This is a testament to his commitment towards the development of our community and we are truly grateful,” he said.
Prince Oke, however, registered his displeasure over nonchalant attitude of the contractor handling the project.
“However, as much as we are grateful for the government’s intervention, we cannot turn a blind eye to the current state of this road project.
“The contractor, Smitcrown Nig. Ltd., has not been able to deliver the expected quality of work.
“We, as the good people of Badagry West, cannot keep quiet and allow such a shambolic job to be done with such a huge amount of money.
“We appeal to Hon Whigan, the Federal Ministry of Works, and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough assessment of the work being done by the contractor,” he said.
The aspirant said that the project needed the support of all stakeholders so that it would be executed with the highest level of professionalism and quality.
“As a law-abiding community, we have always played our part in contributing to the development of our nation, and we expect nothing less from those responsible for this project.
“We urge all relevant authorities to come and conduct a holistic oversight of the Gbaji-Apa-Owode Road project and help us address the irregularities that have been observed.
“Our community deserves a well-constructed and durable road that will not only benefit us but also contribute to the overall development of our nation,” he said.
Oke thanked the government for its commitment towards providing basic amenities for our community, and hope that this project would be completed to the highest standards.
“We look forward to seeing the Owode-Apa Road become a symbol of progress and development for all of us in Badagry West,” he said.
