Lagos League holds free medical outreach for 1000 residents in Badagry

More than 1,000 residents of Badagry communities on Sunday benefited from free medical outreach organised by Lagos League of Champions in partnership with Youth in Business and Mr Seyi Tinubu Organisation.

Speaking, the Lagos Coordinator of the one-day medical outreach, Mr Akeem Adelabu said the outreach services include eye screening, treatment, malaria testing and provision of drugs for the residents

The Lagos Coordinator, Mr. Akeem Adelabu said that the targeted 1,000 persons would benefit from the one-day reach as they will be screened and given the required medical attention free of charge.

He said that the exercise was part of the Lagos League of Champions humanitarian services to help residents in all the five divisions in Lagos.

According to him, the team includes medical doctors, nurses and other health workers to attend to different illnesses brought by the residents.

Adelabu, said that the organiser of the free medical outreach, Mr Seyi Tinubu loves people and wants the people at grassroot to enjoy dividend of democracy.

The coordinator,however stated that the exercise not about politics but to give back to the people in grassroots area.

Adelabu commended the residents of Badagry for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise.

Also speaking, Mrs Damilola James, the Supervisor for Agriculture, Badagry West LCDA, said that the essence of the medical outreach was to improve the wellness of residents.

James, who is one of the coordinators of the exercise said that early detection of diseases would prevent untimely loss of lives, especially among people in the rural areas.

According to her, “This is part of humanitarian services that we conduct in various area like Lagos Island.

She said that the exercise was for the less privileged people and to support Youth movement.

James called for a continuous sensitisation campaign on health services and other eye diseases to check health status of grassroots dwellers from time to time..

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the beneficiaries of the outreach commended the organiser  for organising the one day free medical service.

Dr Olabowale Olatunji, a former lecturer at Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos said majority of the people in grassroots could not afford hospital bills, adding that they preferred dying in their homes.

He commended the NGO for organizing the free medical outreach for grassroots residents.

Mr John Eluku, a resident of Apa community in Badagry who had eye disease commended the group for treating and providing him with drugs

“I have problems with my eyes but because I don’t have enough money I can’t go to general hospital for treatment.

“Thank God, I am one of the beneficiaries of today’s exercise. I was treated and they gave me drugs. God will continue to bless the organisers of this exercise,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Taofika. Omoyibo, a resident of Ajara in Badagry, who had diabetic, commended  Lagos League of Champions for bringing the free health services to them in Badagry.
