Lagos Assembly Crisis Deepens as Speaker Meranda’s Security Aides Withdrawn, Obasa’s Restored

The ongoing crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly has taken a new twist with the withdrawal of all security aides attached to Speaker Mojisola Meranda.

As of Thursday morning, police officers and other security personnel assigned to Meranda were removed, leaving her without protection, according to  a report by The PUNCH . While it remains unclear who authorized the withdrawal, a source close to the Speaker expressed concerns about her vulnerability.

“All her security aides have been withdrawn, including those attached to the House of Assembly,” the source revealed. “She is now unprotected.”

The development comes amid reports that Meranda may resign from her position following intervention from top All Progressives Congress (APC) figures, including former governors Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba.

A mediation panel led by the duo met with key stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council, at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina last Sunday. The panel is reportedly pushing for both former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Meranda to step down, allowing a new lawmaker from Lagos West to assume leadership.

Meanwhile, security operatives attached to Obasa have been reinstated, according to sources in his camp.

“They have restored all of Obasa’s security aides as of this morning,” a source confirmed.

The situation at the Lagos Assembly remains tense as political negotiations continue, with the fate of Meranda and the House leadership still uncertain.
