“We are still behind you”— Mebinone Asogbon Support Group salutes Aiyedatiwa as 7th executive governor of Ondo State

A pro-democracy group, Mebinone Asogbon Support Group has reassured his commitment to Lucky Aiyedatiwa who has been inaugurated as the Governor of Ondo State, commencing his first full four-year term following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital, two months after Aiyedatiwa won the governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress.
Aiyedatiwa took his oath of office as the seventh Ondo State governor just after his running mate Olayide Adelami.
The governor thereafter rode in an open van around the complex, waving to cheers from supporters.
Reacting to the this, the group via his leader, Engineer Mebinone Asogbon stated his previous tenure is a tip of an iceberg compare to great things he’s yet to achieve. He however assured his group won’t relent in her bid to promote unity, developments and progress capable of putting the state on a global map.
“ During the campaign, we made a promise to support the governor beyond 2025 and I’m glad it’s coming to manifestation. We believe in his dedication to our people and his commitment to improving infrastructure, security, and economic opportunities across our communities.”
“He has shown a genuine commitment to the progress of our coastal society and we are here to ensure his continued leadership as governor. We urged him to snub distraction while discharging his sacred mandate and we’ll be glad should he let his people continue to be at the centre of all decisions. Our state has no business with poverty and we’re rest assured he’ll eradicate that.”
“Sincere, purposeful, and focused leadership should have little difficulty in harnessing the vast resources, both human and natural and he must put in everything to justify the trust reposed in him.”
“Our group being one of the critical stakeholders whose contribution to the success of the just-concluded elections cannot be underestimated, heartily congratulate your Excellency on your successful inauguration as the 7th governor of Ondo state,” the group stated.
To arrive here, Aiyedatiwa had to overcome a competition from another former deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi, who contested against him on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Aiyedatiwa’s stay at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure, was extended when he was declared winner of the November 16, 2024 governorship election by the Returning Officer, Olayemi Akinwumi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State.
The APC candidate polled 366,781 votes to defeat his closest rival Ajayi, who scored 117,845 votes, more than twice lower than Aiyedatiwa.
