LAGGSOGA Launches N250m Endowment Fund for Lagos Anglican Girl Grammar School

Old students of the Lagos Anglican Girl Grammar School, Surulere, has launched N250 million endowment fund to support development of infrastructure in the school.

Speaking at the 70th Founder’s Day Anniversary, the President of the Lagos Anglican Girl Grammar School Old Girls Association (LAGGSOGA), Mrs Grace Ben-Okezie, said the fund is a demonstration of their resolve to empower empower the school.

Ben-Okezie said: “As we celebrate this milestone, we are also taking a bold step to proactively confront the future with the launch of the LAGGSOGA Endowment Fund.

“This initiative is not just an expression of our gratitude but a demonstration of our resolve to empower the school to meet the evolving challenges of modern education as we raise more young girls of today to become graceful lady-warriors that will conquer tomorrow.

“THey will in turn contribute to sustaining and embellishing the legacy. Our contributions today will help preserve this beautiful legacy and equip it to indeed inspire and shape future generations of leaders who can hold their own against the best anywhere and anytime.

“Some people believe in the dream or vision of this event, and made various efforts to make it possible – your sacrifices are acknowledged a d we appreciate you.”

According to Ben-Okezie, for 70 years, the school has stood as a beacon of excellence, shaping young girls into women of integrity, resilience and purpose.

She said the school made them lady-warriors designed to gracefully confront and vanquish challenges.

On her part, the Chairperson of the 70th anniversary planning committee, Jomion Shogbola, said the old students will use the fund to reconstruct the school’s dinning hall and address electricity challenges.

Shogbola said: “I’m particularly excited to connect with people especially those that I never met in school, those that pass out before me and those that came after I left the school.

“There are so many projects and we want to reconstruct the present dinning hall of the school. And we are doing what is called light up LAGGS that is to make sure there is electrification everywhere especially the entire environment.

“There has to be light irrespective of the power situation in the country. There has to be light in the school. You know it is an all girls school and we cannot compromise by leaving our girls in darkness.”

The immediate past president of the association, Tokunbo Ladega, said: “The school has survived through many government interventions because there was a time the government took over the school from the missionary.

“During that period, the school didn’t look like our school but we thank God when the school was returned to the mission.

“So, it was a great Joy for us to be celebrating 70 years of our school and to see that our school is back on top and that is what we are proud of.

“We have an endowment fund because we have a lot of projects that we want to carry out in the school. Today we are going to launch the fundraising for this endowment which includes scholarships, building of different areas of the school that need development and also to develop the educational and moral values of the current students going forward.”
