BREAKING: Fighter Jet Bombing Mistakenly Hits Sokoto Communities, Many Feared Dead

Tragedy struck in Sokoto State early Wednesday morning as a fighter jet targeting the Lakurawa terrorist group mistakenly bombed two communities in Silame Local Government Area. The affected villages, Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa, were reportedly hit around 7 a.m., leading to significant casualties.

According to local reports, the airstrike was intended for Surame Forest, a known hideout for the Lakurawa group and other bandits. However, the operation tragically veered off course, impacting the nearby villages.

Malam Yahya, a resident of Silame, confirmed the proximity of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa to the forest, noting that the area has long been a hotspot for banditry. “These communities have suffered from the presence of these criminal groups. This incident is a devastating blow,” he lamented.

Another source revealed that over ten villagers lost their lives in the attack, with many others sustaining varying degrees of injuries. “It is a heartbreaking situation. Innocent lives have been lost due to this error,” the source told Daily Trust.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, local residents are calling for immediate intervention to ensure the safety of communities in the area and a thorough investigation into the bombing.

This incident adds to the growing concerns about the collateral damage caused by military operations in regions plagued by terrorism and banditry. As tensions rise, affected communities are left grappling with the devastating aftermath of what was meant to be a counter-terrorism operation.
