The famous gospel singer, Serah Apekeola and other choirs from different churches in Badagry on Monday thrilled many residents of the coastal town during the celebration of Christmas.
The celebration which commenced at about 6.00.p.m, at the newly constructed Agia Tree in Badagry was graced by political office holders like Prince Sesi Whingan, the lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in House of Representatives and others.
Hon. Bonu Solomon, the lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly, the organiser of the programme said he was delighted with the large turnout of the people.
The lawmaker said he felt happy because his dream of turning Badagry into Jerusalem of Nigeria is becoming a reality.
“I am happy because where we are standing today at Agia Tree is where Christianity was first preached in Nigeria.
“With huge infrastructural development taking place in Badagry courtesy of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we are gradually changing the narrative.
“The performance today is great, choirs from all churches came to sing songs here and to cap it up, when the gospel singer, Serah Apekeola came on stage, it was marvelous and superb.
“Many residents from all the three council in Badagry danced and praised the Lord, that is my joy of Christmas celebration,” he said.
The lawmaker said apart from the Christmas celebration, many other events were line up for celebration of Christmas and New Year festival.
“This includes Social Media Awards on Dec.26, Heritage festival on Dec 27 and Coconut Heritage festival on Dec.28 and lots of other.
“We are inviting everyone to come and enjoy themselves in Badagry during these festivities period.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank Gov. Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Mr Hamzat, Speaker of LAHA and my colleague in the house for giving me the opportunity to promote Badagry to another level,” he said.
Serah Apekeola, a gospel singer known as Won Gbogo Fole Mi, said she was excited with the multiple of people that came to the venue of the event.
“Seeing people dancing to my songs, moving from one place to another with joy in their mind is another inspiration for me.
“I will definitely come here next year if invited to sing again. The crowd both Muslims and Christians were so happy despite the hardship in the country,” she said.
Mrs Oluwakemi Avoseh, one of residents that graced the occasion said the night was a wonderful night.
“It was a wonderful night, this is the first time many gospel artists will come to sing for us here in Badagry.
“Even the town felt it, I don’t even what the celebration to stop but we thank God for everything,” she said.
