A fatal accident involving a J5 Ford bus and a Mercedes truck occurred at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge, leaving one person dead and five others injured.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, which happened earlier today. The J5 Ford bus, loaded with pepper and other perishable goods, reportedly suffered a brake failure while speeding, leading to a collision with the truck.
LASTMA officials, supported by bystanders, quickly responded to the scene. Four victims were rescued from the wreckage, with three surviving and one person tragically losing their life.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police Force, and LASAMBUS, worked alongside LASTMA to manage the situation. The injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for urgent medical treatment.
LASTMA’s rescue team also ensured the accident site was promptly cleared, removing both vehicles and spilled goods to restore the smooth flow of traffic on the busy bridge.
