President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman for being named the 2024 CAF Men’s African Footballer of the Year.

In a statement released by the State House, the President also praised Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who retained her title as the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, and the Super Falcons for clinching the award for Women’s National Team of the Year.

The awards, which were held on Monday night at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, celebrated the achievements of Africa’s finest football talents.

President Tinubu commended the athletes for their determination, discipline, and hard work, which he said have brought honor to Nigeria on both the continental and global stage. He described them as true ambassadors of the country and a testament to the resilience and excellence of the Nigerian spirit.

“These athletes embody the essential Nigerian spirit,” the President said. “They signpost the best in us as a nation. Let no one ever write us off. I am incredibly proud of them.”

The President added that this recognition by Africa’s highest football authority would inspire other young talents to pursue their dreams with confidence and dedication.

“Thank you for making Nigeria proud and keeping our flag flying,” he continued. “Thank you for winning medals for Nigeria both at home and abroad. You will win more in the future.”

The awards have further solidified Nigeria’s place as a powerhouse in African football, with athletes and teams achieving remarkable success.
