Nigerians were once again plunged into darkness on Wednesday as the national power grid collapsed for the 12th time this year.
The collapse occurred at about 2:09 pm, as confirmed by a tweet from the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid. “The major grid setback has occurred, and restoration is to commence,” the tweet read.
This marks a historic low, with the grid collapsing 12 times in 2024. Between January and November alone, there were 11 recorded incidents, including three collapses within one week in October. These frequent outages have caused widespread blackouts and sparked frustration among Nigerians.
As the country grapples with the ongoing power supply challenges, details about the cause of this latest collapse and efforts to restore electricity are still being expected.
