Nigeria’s oldest airline, Aero Contractors, has announced a significant reduction in airfares to N80,000 for all routes during the festive season, down from the over N110,000 fares currently prevalent on many domestic routes.
The Managing Director of the airline, Capt. Ado Sanusi, made this announcement during a media briefing at the airline’s office at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday. He explained that the fare reduction is part of the airline’s initiative to give back to its customers during the festive period, acknowledging the economic hardship many Nigerians are facing.
The discounted fares, which took effect immediately, will last until the end of January 2025, covering all Aero Contractors’ destinations.
“We understand the economic challenges Nigerians are going through, and we recognize that airfares have become significantly high,” Sanusi said. “This Christmas initiative is our way of making air travel more accessible and affordable for everyone during this festive season.”
Sanusi emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, stating that the move aligns with the spirit of Christmas.
“We are in the spirit of giving, which Christmas embodies. As one of the oldest airlines in the country, we believe it is time to show our appreciation to our customers for their loyalty,” he added.
In addition to slashing fares, Aero Contractors is positioning itself for future growth. The airline is currently seeking new investors to inject funds into the over 60-year-old carrier. Sanusi hinted that plans are underway to attract investment and revitalize the airline’s operations, ensuring it remains a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
