Rt. Rev. Monsignor Thomas Oleghe, recognized as Nigeria’s oldest Catholic priest, passed away at the age of 104 on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Edo State, announced his death, noting that he died peacefully at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Monsignor Oleghe was a native of Igiode in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. He served the Catholic Church with unwavering dedication, notably in Igarra, Akoko Edo LGA, Edo State, for about 23 years.
His commitment to his faith and community was evident throughout his life. Even in his later years, he remained active in church activities, often waking up at 4 a.m. for morning adoration.
The funeral service for Monsignor Oleghe is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The Catholic community and well-wishers are expected to gather to honor his life and legacy.
