Eight people have been confirmed dead, with over twenty others still missing, following a boat accident at Beneth Island in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning when the victims, traveling on a speedboat after attending a burial, collided with a large log in the creeks, causing the boat to capsize. The passengers, who were not wearing life vests and did not know how to swim, drowned or went missing immediately after the collision.
It took several hours for the body of a one-year-old to be recovered from the creeks.
As of the time of reporting, passengers using the same route were seen demanding life vests from boat operators before embarking on their journeys, while discussing the tragic incident.
